Delta Force: Task Force Dagger

Delta Force: Task Force Dagger

Delta Force: Task Force Dagger
While Red Storm Entertainment's Rainbow Six series often gets all the credit for establishing the tactical shooter genre, games like NovaLogic's long-running Delta Force series deserve some credit too. With a focus on real-world weaponry, long-range sniping, and quick kills, the early Delta Force games helped create a new level of realism in shooters. Nevertheless, the Delta Force series has since been left limping along the gaming wayside, surpassed by superior tactical shooters like SWAT 3, Operation Flashpoint, and Ghost Recon. NovaLogic's latest release, Delta Force: Task Force Dagger, simply can't compare with these games and marks a real step backward for the Delta Force series.

It may sound like doublespeak, but NovaLogic is billing Task Force Dagger as a "stand-alone mission pack" for 2000's once-decent but now-dated Delta Force: Land Warrior. This seeming contradiction means you'll get the same fundamental game engine featured in Land Warrior, but with 25 new missions and a bunch of new weapons. Unfortunately, none of them are particularly entertaining.

In Task Force Dagger, you head to Afghanistan to fight in missions inspired by Operation Enduring Freedom--which may suggest to some that NovaLogic is simply trying to profit from tragic real-world events. NovaLogic touts the game as a tribute to the heroes of the conflict, but Task Force Dagger simply treats the subject matter with cold, boring sterility. As far as story and setting go, it's one of the most uninvolving tactical shooters in a long time.

In Task Force Dagger, you'll head to places like Kandahar, where you'll destroy SAM sites. In Mazar-e Sharif, you'll try to capture an enemy commander. In Bagh-e Daud, you'll try to rescue a journalist. Despite this seeming variety, many missions play the same: Approach a compound, snipe a bunch of guys who are just standing around, move in, blast a few remaining guys who are just standing around, and grab some documents or blow something up. The fact that you do most of these things without any AI companions is both dull and unrealistic. As for multiplayer, it's decent enough for a short spell but ultimately just the same sort of thing you've played many times before: capture the flag, king of the hill, deathmatch, and the like.

Starship Troopers

Starship Troopers

Starship Troopers
Each level becomes an exercise in simply marching your squad around the map and watching your troops gun down any bugs that get in your way.

The game consists of a linear, 20-mission single-player campaign. You're given an initial allotment of about 40 soldiers. Though you'll occasionally rescue some new recruits in a mission, this pool of soldiers must see you through the entire campaign. Troopers killed in action are gone for good. Before each level, you must create and outfit a strike team of between 12 and 21 troopers to take into battle. At the mission's end, each surviving soldier is awarded experience points that eventually cause him to be promoted. The higher a trooper's rank, the better his overall performance. New equipment, such as better weapons and armor, becomes available at predetermined times within the campaign.

Each of the 20 missions has a series of goals that must be met. These goals are usually presented to you using voice-overs and cutscenes during various points in each mission. Generally, this forces you to react to the moment rather than plan and enact some master strategy. The goals unfold sequentially, and you complete them one at a time. Though you can break your units into squads, move them into formations, and control each one separately, there's very little reason to do any of this. Your troopers have a much greater chance of surviving if you keep them in a tight knot and move them around as a single group. Each level becomes an exercise in simply marching your squad around the map and watching your troops gun down any bugs that get in your way.

The levels generally take 20 to 40 minutes to complete. There is no in-mission save feature; you can only save your progress between levels. Depending on your tolerance for frustration, this may create tension but will more likely make Starship Troopers a tedious chore to play. For instance, one level concludes with a sequence in which you must defend a military outpost from an onslaught of bugs. It's a difficult task, but it's exciting. Unfortunately, it takes place after more than ten minutes of relatively uneventful marching around. The defense portion itself is one of the few times the game really requires some tactical thought, and there are several different ways to approach it. But the amount of time required to get to this point makes redoing the level more annoying than fun and acts as a real disincentive to play it again just to test out some different strategies. What's even more frustrating is that there's no way to skip the cutscenes during a mission, which makes replaying any of the levels even more of a trial.

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne
"Short but sweet" is a good way to describe 2001's Max Payne, as well as its newly released sequel. Actually, the main difference between Max Payne 2 and its predecessor involves more of the circumstances under which the games arrived than anything existing in the games themselves. The original was victim to multiple development delays and spent years in the making, but, despite being a relatively brief experience, it was a thrilling, stylish, violent action game that was ultimately worth the wait. The sequel, on the other hand, was announced just months ago and hit store shelves on exactly the day it was supposed to. This new Max Payne, billed as "a film noir love story," was certainly worth the wait too, though this time, the wait was brief. As long as you go into it without expecting a dramatically different--or longer--gameplay experience than the original, Max Payne 2 won't disappoint. On its own merits, it's a stunning shooter that's got a bit too much plot and is over too soon, though it's still incredibly intense and, by all means, worth experiencing.

The storyline unfolds in much the same fashion as the original. It uses some very slick, graphic novel-style storyboards--complete with melodramatic dialogue straight out of a pulp detective novel--and good voice-over to go with it. These graphic novel sequences are unmistakably similar to those of the first game, though they are, in some cases, even more artistic this time around. Max Payne 2 certainly isn't lacking in its presentation. Even the game's special edition DVD-style packaging is slick, and all of the game's between-level loading screens and graphic novel sequences are impressive-looking and often very cool. The plot itself features a number of twists but is rather convoluted the first go-round. Play through the game a second time (perhaps on the higher difficulty setting that's unlocked after you finish it the first time) and you'll likely get a much clearer sense of what's happening.

Battlefield 1942

Battlefield 1942

Battlefield 1942
can be a lot of fun things to a lot of people, but first it's important to tell you what it's not: The game definitely isn't a realistic WWII combat simulator. This is a pick-up-and-play action extravaganza, a comic book version of WWII. The fact that any player can casually hop into a tank, drive around, hop out and pick off an enemy soldier with a sniper rifle, hop into a plane, parachute out, and then call in artillery fire (within the span of a few minutes) should tell you a lot about the game--and a lot about what makes it so much fun.

In Battlefield 1942, you can fight offline with decent but unspectacular computer-controlled bots. Online, you can play in four different game modes against up to 64 players at a time. Realistically, you'll usually find servers capable of handling only 32 players, at most. Even with that reduced number, and even if you have the game's first patch installed, have a cable Internet connection, and get a ping in the 50s or 60s, there's a good chance you'll experience some lag or choppiness. Trying to shoot bazookas at tanks, which will suddenly appear elsewhere because of lag, isn't exactly enjoyable.

But when you manage to make a good connection to a powerful server, Battlefield 1942 has lots to offer. For instance, the game's popular conquest mode, where each team tries to capture and hold various control points on the map, can be great fun. The control points are set at strategic locations, like ruined villages or outposts with bunkers or heavy machine-gun positions, making them a challenge to occupy.

Bodies will quickly start filling the fields and streets, which leads to one of Battlefield 1942's more interesting features. Each team is allotted a certain number of tickets at the beginning of the match. You can respawn within a few seconds of dying (the exact time varies) to reinforce your team, but for every death, your team loses tickets. When the enemy holds a certain number of control points at once, your team will also start losing tickets. When your team runs out of tickets, you lose the battle. This system is a welcome compromise between some of the other death-and-respawn systems found in other shooters. In Battlefield 1942, you don't have to sit out around and twiddle your thumbs when you're "dead," yet you're still usually penalized by a brief wait, and because of the ticket system, every death ultimately affects the outcome of the battle.

DRIV3R

DRIV3R
The Driver series is helmed by an undercover cop named Tanner. This time around, Tanner is trying to infiltrate a Miami-based car thief ring, which is working to steal 40 exotic cars and ship them out of Miami. Part of the game's story involves finding out who the thieves in the car ring are working for, where the cars are going, and who's double-crossing whom. You'll start out in Miami, eventually make your way to Nice for some French car chases, and you'll also spend some time in Istanbul. The story is mostly told via prerendered cutscenes that fall somewhere between a music video and a movie in terms of style and inspiration. Generally speaking, the cutscenes look pretty good. In fact, the cutscenes are probably the best part about Driver 3.

Despite featuring three large cities to drive in, Driver 3's main mode is a linear, mission-based game that sends you on mission after mission until you've unraveled the game's story. Each mission has clear-cut objectives, like chasing after a guy who double-crossed your gang, stealing three cars and driving them into the back of a moving truck before the truck gets to its destination, or driving around on an enemy's turf and busting up the place by crashing through exploding barrels and other objects. At the end of every mission, you're given the option to save and then you can continue on to the next mission. The missions tend to vary from city to city, but the lackluster gameplay really prevents many of the missions from being much fun.

DMZ: North Korea

DMZ: North Korea
Of all the weird and wacky crimes committed by North Korean despot Kim Jong Il, some of the weirdest and wackiest were the kidnappings of Japanese civilians for such disparate duties as training spies and making movies. Still, that was a pretty good scheme, at least for an evil dictator, because nobody would willingly sign up for a tour of duty in Pyongyang. It's also a tactic that developer Jarhead Games (known for such straight-to-Wal-Mart classics as World War II Sniper: Call to Victory) might want to adopt for DMZ: North Korea, because nobody would willingly play this horrible third-person shooter.

There are so many awful things to discuss here that it's hard to decide where to start. But let's begin with the plot, which is B-movie absurdity at its finest. Whoever came up with this saga about an American commando waging a one-man war against North Korea hasn't opened a newspaper in a few years, as the story deals with discovering whether or not the nation has an "under the radar" nuclear-weapons program under way. Yeah, you really need to send in the troops to find that out.

TimeShift

TimeShift

TimeShift
If you need more out of a game's story than "shoot guys until the credits roll because an angry soldier and a computer voice say so," you're in trouble here. If you piece together the fragmented cutscenes, scour the manual, and read the back of the box, you'll learn that a certain Dr. Krone has stolen a special suit that lets its user travel through time. This has created an alternate reality, which is a bad thing--you'll have to trust the game on that, because it's tough to figure out just what has happened that's so bad, other than a big robot spider that shoots lasers terrorizing the city. (OK, maybe that is bad.) It's up to you to take the other, experimental beta suit (ohhhh, dangerous!), travel through time, and stop Dr. Krone from doing something sinister--which he has already done, so you want to undo whatever it is he's done...or something.

Even though the story is an incoherent mess, it's still possible to enjoy TimeShift. Why? Because you can time-shift. Your suit has the ability to pause, slow down, or even reverse time--kind of like a TiVo you can wear. This lets you pause the action, run up to a guy, and shoot him to bits. Or if you're feeling like humiliating him before you kill him, you can steal his weapon, restart time, and watch as he wonders where the heck it went, and then make him dead with a barrage of bullets. It's even possible to regenerate health by seeking cover and pausing time. You can't rewind time and prevent your own death, but if you're quick you can reverse it and unstick a grenade from yourself. You only have a limited amount of time you can manipulate before the suit's energy runs out, but it regenerates quickly. The game promises all sorts of other "exciting" uses for altering the flow of time, but it never really capitalizes on the potential of the mechanic. Rather than challenging you with complex puzzles that require you to think outside the box or use the game's quality physics engine, you're mostly limited to slowing down time so you can press two buttons in quick succession or pausing time so that you can get through a door before it closes. Thank goodness for technology.

Other than the time-shifting stuff, the rest of TimeShift plays like a linear, run-of-the mill first-person shooter--and a dated one at that. Most of the level objectives are routine tasks like finding a button that opens a door or, sometimes, locating a lever that opens a door. Heck, sometimes you have to do both! There are a few scenarios where you ride around on an ATV and some others where you man a turret on an airship, but most of the time you'll be moving from checkpoint to checkpoint on foot, taking out wave after wave of unintelligent foes. It's good, then, that the gunplay is entertaining. This is mostly due to the game's powerful weapons that are so much fun to shoot. It might not be exactly challenging, but it's fun to pause time and take the crossbow that shoots an arrow that sticks in the target and then blows up, and then unpause time and watch your foe explode into a charred, bloody mess. There are other cool weapons too, like the automatic gun that looks like it shoots bullets, but these bullets cause the target to burst into flames when they hit, and then the dude screams like a little girl as he fries. Even the basic machine gun is powerful and useful all the way through the game. There's always plenty of ammo to be found, so you never have to be conservative with your bullets.

Quake 4

Quake 4

Quake 4
While Doom was the game that would make id Software a gaming-household name in the early '90s, over the years, the company shifted its focus away from the Doom games. As PC hardware and 3D acceleration became better and better, id became much more focused on engine development. Those engines were the underlying technology that powered the games in the Quake series, which began in 1996. Quake was among the first PC first-person shooters to let you take your multiplayer matches onto the Internet, and over the years, the series has become synonymous with great technology and exciting multiplayer. Now, in 2005, the roles of id's games have reversed a bit. The company's most recent engine is the one built for Doom 3, and Quake 4 runs on this same engine. Furthermore, Quake 4 wasn't even developed by id internally; it instead outsourced game development to the capable minds at Raven Software, who have turned in a fantastic-looking game with a great single-player campaign. The multiplayer, however, is underwhelming.

The three previous Quake games have all had very little to do with one another. The first game's story almost felt more like a retelling of Doom, dealing with inappropriately opened portals that spew out all sorts of horrific demons. Quake II ditched that storyline in favor of an Earth-versus-alien conflict that had you crash-landing on the alien homeworld in search of revenge. Quake III Arena was multiplayer focused, with no true single-player storyline other than that a wide collection of warriors--some taken from the Doom and Quake games--had been pulled out of their own timelines and into this futuristic battle arena. Quake 4 doubles back and picks up where Quake II left off. That nameless space marine from Quake II has apparently killed the Makron, the leader of the Strogg forces, and now it's up to you to get in there and try to finish the job. But, of course, things aren't quite what they seem.

In Quake 4, you play as a space marine named Matthew Kane, who has recently been assigned to Rhino Squad. In keeping with first-person shooter storyline tradition, Kane doesn't speak, but the marines around you will more than make up for the lack of chatter coming out of Kane's lips. You're the new guy, and some of the squad's even betting that you won't even survive for one day. With the Makron assumed dead, your squad is taking part in an operation to take advantage of the disarray and mop up the rest of the enemy forces on the Strogg planet. But your drop ship gets hit and comes down hard, killing a large chunk of your squadmates at the opening of the game. From there, you'll pull yourself up out of the muck and get down to business.

Eventually, your squad will get extracted back to a capital ship for reassignment. Here, you'll get to explore the ship, similar to how you could explore Voyager in Raven's Elite Force games. Then you're back out on a new mission designed to disrupt the Strogg communication network. And the story continues from there. While the story itself isn't particularly gripping, it's designed well enough to keep you interested in what's happening. There's also a potentially interesting plot twist in the game that, unfortunately, was revealed by id Software almost immediately, when the company first started talking about and showing off the game. We won't repeat it here, in case you've managed to stay away, because we have to imagine that the twist would have been a lot more interesting if you didn't see it coming. Just know that a few interesting things happen in the game, but they don't totally change the way the game is played or anything like that.

For the most part, Quake 4 is a standard, straightforward shooter in its single-player mode. While the minute-to-minute objectives might not be the most interesting thing in the world, the game's combat is generally pretty satisfying. It's almost as if Raven set out to prove that the Doom 3 engine could do more than just constantly try to surprise you, one enemy at a time. That's not to say that Quake 4's hallways are littered with angry enemies, but Quake 4 is definitely a much more hectic game than Doom 3 ever was. While you'll still deal with a lot of shadowy areas, this is less about making you jump out of your seat and more about running and gunning. When matched with the game's amazing graphical design, the single-player becomes an exciting thrill ride that, on the default difficulty setting, should take you somewhere around 10 to 15 hours to complete.

The Punisher

The Punisher

The Punisher
Though many games today take elements from existing titles and try to put their own spin on them, this form of imitation isn't always a bad thing. There's something to be said for honing a concept. But the possibility that the new twist on an old formula won't actually improve the overall product certainly exists. The Punisher, a long-running Marvel Comics franchise about a vigilante trying to save the world from being overrun by scumbags, is no stranger to this concept. Back in 1993, the character appeared in an arcade game from Capcom that basically started with Final Fight as a template, and then dropped in The Punisher, Nick Fury, and so on. It wasn't so great. Now, THQ and Volition have delivered a new game with The Punisher name. While it attempts to put its own spin on the third-person shooter genre by adding sometimes-gruesome interrogation sequences, this game is, more or less, Max Payne without the bullet time.

Well, perhaps "without the bullet time" isn't entirely accurate. The Punisher can go into "slaughter mode," which slows the game down a bit. Slaughter mode is slightly unique in that, while in it, you'll regain some of your health and drop your guns in favor of a never-ending supply of knives that you can throw into the faces of enemies with stunning accuracy. The other twist to The Punisher is that you can grab any enemy for use as a human shield. Though doing this slows down your movement so much that it's only occasionally useful, once you've grabbed an enemy, you can choose to interrogate him. This brings up a little tension minigame, in which you have to work the mouse just right to keep a line in the proper section of a meter for three seconds. Once you do this, the perp will crack and tell you what he knows, and you'll get a little health boost for your trouble. Most enemies know next to nothing, and interrogating the average bad guy will get you one of only a few phrases per level. But some enemies yield more-interesting results, and these guys are clearly marked with a skull over their head, so you'll know to deal with them dead last.

The Punisher's family was wasted by the mob, and he's out for revenge. Unless you're already a fan of the character, that's all you really have to go on at the outset of the game. The story is told via a series of flashbacks. It seems that Frank Castle's finally been caught at the end of a three-week spree of crime fighting, though the NYPD sees his vigilante tactics in a slightly different light. The game opens with The Punisher being interrogated by the authorities in a little room on Ryker's Island (not to be confused with Rikers Island, the real-life prison). They talk him through the last three weeks, fading out to gameplay at certain points. You start out merely taking on the mob, which happens to be running a crack house and a chop shop in your neighborhood. Eventually, murdering your way up the mob's chain of command leads you to a much bigger terrorist plot. Players will find somewhere between 10 and 15 hours of action here the first time through, with the variance in time largely decided by your skill at getting headshots. The game gives you medals based on your performance, and you can choose to reenter levels with specific challenges to complete, though these additions don't really provide enough reason to go back to the game after completing it.

Doom 3

Doom 3

Doom 3
While not as remarkable as the technology that fuels it, the game itself is put together well enough to make Doom 3 legitimately great, all things considered.

Extremely impressive from a technical standpoint yet behind the times from a first-person-shooter design standpoint: This is the dichotomy that is Doom 3, the long-awaited sequel from well-known Texas-based developer id Software. Doom 3 is quite possibly the best-looking game ever, thanks to the brand-new 3D graphics engine used to generate its convincingly lifelike, densely atmospheric, and surprisingly expansive environments. At the same time, when you look past the spectacular appearance, you'll find a conventional, derivative shooter. In fact, if you played the original Doom or its sequel back in the mid '90s (or any popular '90s-era shooter, for that matter), you may be shocked by how similarly Doom 3 plays to those games. The legions of id Software's true believers will celebrate this straightforwardness as being deliberately "old school," especially since Doom 3 is packed with direct references to its classic predecessors. However, the truth of the matter is that Doom 3's gameplay structure and level design are behind the times and very much at odds with the game's cutting-edge, ultrarealistic looks. Yet the quality of the presentation truly is remarkable--enough so that it overwhelms Doom 3's occasional problems.

Doom 3 is essentially a remake of the original Doom, though series fans will find reimagined versions of almost every monster from both Doom and Doom II in the new sequel. You play as a nameless, voiceless 22nd-century space marine called by the Union Aerospace Corporation to its Mars research facility beset with mysterious problems--the forces of hell, to be exact. You'll end up single-handedly fighting back legions of hellspawn using weapons like shotguns, machine guns, and rocket launchers. As in the classic Doom games, your foes here are liable to strike at any time--often just as you round a corner, grab a much-needed power-up, or set foot into a new area. So, while your enemies will materialize without notice, and may occasionally startle you as they leap out of the darkness, Doom 3 cannot easily be described as scary or suspenseful. On the contrary, it's very predictable, and more or less it just goes through the same types of paces that you've probably gone through before in any number of other similar games.

Over the course of the game, you'll fight your way through a series of linear levels filled with locked doors, and you'll gradually find new weapons and occasionally meet new types of monsters. Early on, your apparent goal is to meet up with your squad, but as you might expect, you'll never actually get to fight alongside any human forces (no thanks to the omission of a co-op mode for multiple players, which was a signature element of past Doom games). Despite the game's cinematic trappings, it follows a formula that generally lacks drama or tension. Occasionally, the game presents to you a shocking or surprising scene--a hallucination or some hellish, otherworldly image. These moments are effective, but are too few and far between in the context of a single-player shooter that's of above-average length (somewhere between 15 to 20 hours). Fortunately, the campaign definitely picks up during the last several hours, once you finally reach (and keep going past) the point when you confront the enemy on its own turf. Getting to that point may be your primary motivation for trudging through some of the repetitive middle portions of the game, though.

Part of the issue is that Doom 3's storyline and narrative technique are ineffectual. Since the main character has no identity whatsoever (for whatever reason), the game tries to get you interested in everyone else on the base. You'll frequently find voice recordings and e-mail from various characters, but not only is a lot of this stuff bone dry, having to stop and read or stand around and listen to a rambling monologue jarringly disrupts the flow of the action. Unfortunately, if you choose to focus on the action by ignoring the seemingly extraneous story elements, you'll find that some of them aren't optional--you'll need to sift through those e-mails and listen to some of those voice recordings to get passcodes for locked doors and storage chests.

For what it's worth, the game's premise seems very fleshed out, and the game gives an amazing first impression. As you explore the UAC base, eavesdropping on various conversations and observing great, little details here and there, you'll get the impression that Doom 3 takes place in a fully realized world. Of course, all hell quickly breaks loose, and from that point onward you'll encounter scarce few creatures that you won't want to instantly shoot. The premise of the game will continue to unfold through occasional cutscenes and the aforementioned e-mails and recordings.

Soldner-X: Himmelssturmer

Soldner-X: Himmelssturmer

Soldner-X: Himmelssturmer
The galaxy as we know it is threatening to fall apart. War, death, and bedlam have taken hold of civilisation. Humankind is at the brink of extinction.

Soldner-X is a great looking side-scrolling shooter that, because of its steep level of difficulty, is really made more for the die-hard fans of the genre than the casual gamer. It might take the average player 10-15 tries to learn the patterns and chaining system, but that's what the developers intended, and if that's what you're looking for you will not be disappointed. If one were to navigate the official Soldner-X forums they would find posts requesting various things including how to access the save game system to avoid restarting the game each time you lose (it doesn't exist), better weapon balancing (intended feature to make people learn the chaining system) and customizable controls for both the keyboard and joypad (coming in a yet-to-be-released patch).

Upon first starting the game you're treated with a brief but fairly well executed explanation of why there is one ship fighting a seemingly endless amount of enemies. Apparently this all started on a planet called Conceyta where an evil entity forms, absorbs loads of technology and destroys earth's fleet. Now it's up to the last pilot, a bounty hunter (thankfully originality's not lost on them), to fly the new prototype ship Soldner-X and "stop the deadly infection and destroy the core of evil." The plot really doesn't matter but it's nice to have something there. If you're one of the few that are playing it solely for the story, you'll be happy to know that you are treated to more slideshows with voiceovers at the end of each mission segment.

The most unique and unexpected part of the game is the chaining system where you kill a certain number of enemies with whatever weapon you want and switch to another weapon at the appropriate time (don't worry, the game prompts you) and repeat the process. Do this enough times and you get a power-up, points, or extra health. Kill too many during the chain and you lose a chain level. It's definitely one of those things that is easy to learn but tough to master.

Soldner-X: Himmelssturmer
Soldner-X: Himmelssturmer

The game can be played using a keyboard or a controller, but the developers themselves recommend playing the game using a controller as there is a greater degree of sensitivity present with the analog sticks. I used my keyboard and even though I primarily game on a console, I didn't feel like my experience was significantly worse because of it. Although, not having the option to customize my controls to better fit the way that I like to play seemed like a careless mistake on their part. Like many gamers, I've grown accustomed to using the WASD keys to move my character and having to instead use my other hand to operate the arrow keys was a learning experience in itself.

Not only that, but in order to properly utilize the chaining system you have to frequently be switching between different weapon types in the middle of a chaotic battle by pressing the 1-5 number keys on the left side of the keyboard. There were a few times where I found myself switching to the wrong weapon and although it kept my chain, it wasn't the weapon I needed for the situation. It may have been user error on my part, but had the game shipped with customizable controls, then I probably wouldn't have messed up. Probably.

I'll be honest, I don't really play side-scrolling shoot-em ups like this. I've never been a fan of repeatedly playing levels to learn patterns and timings, it's just not my thing, but I found Soldner-X to be highly entertaining because of the fact that this is a hardcore game for fans of the genre. Increased accessibility to increase sales seems to be the mantra of most developers and publishers in the industry and its nice to play a finely-tuned game that is developed with a core audience in mind.

Swat 4 PC Game

SWAT 4

SWAT 4
The newest iteration of the series is the best one yet, offering an intelligent and flexible interface, a highly replayable campaign, and multiplayer modes that include cooperative play.

The original SWAT game, released in 1995, was Daryl F. Gates' Police Quest: SWAT. Named after the former Los Angeles Police Chief who formed the world's first SWAT team, the original SWAT and its sequel were actually strategy games. It wasn't until SWAT 3: Close Quarters Battle was released in 1999 that the series transitioned into the first-person-shooter genre. Throughout the years, each SWAT game has attempted to simulate what it's like to lead the world's most highly skilled and trained police officers into dangerous confrontations. It's been more than five years since the last SWAT, and the newest iteration of the series is the best one yet, offering an intelligent and flexible interface, a varied and highly replayable campaign, as well as multiplayer modes that include cooperative play.

As with the real-life SWAT teams, your job as an element commander in SWAT 4 is to take your five-man team into dangerous situations and defuse them. These situations range from a botched jewelry heist to high-risk arrest warrants to a raid on an illegal casino. In almost every mission, there are innocent civilians mixed in with the bad guys. Those of you who are Rainbow Six and Counter-Strike veterans will need to cool it on your itchy trigger fingers. Even when you do run into armed criminals, you don't have carte blanche to shoot them immediately. You have to follow the same strict rules of engagement as a real police officer and do whatever you can to subdue and arrest suspects without lethal force. Your guns are meant to be a last resort and should only be used if an armed suspect is an immediate threat to your team or civilians. This is the primary detail that separates the SWAT games from the military-style action games. The rules of engagement add a good deal of difficulty to the game, and SWAT 4 pulls this off well. At the end of each mission you're graded on how well you did, and more points are awarded for arresting as opposed to killing suspects. You are assessed big point penalties for improper use of force, and for the most part, these penalties are levied fairly and intuitively.

The 14-mission campaign isn't linked in any way. There's no overarching storyline that connects them all, so the campaign plays out just like a series of stand-alone missions. It starts you off with a training level that does a good job of acquainting you with the basics of using your weapons and commanding your teams. It's here that you're introduced to the game's interface. Your four subordinates are divided into a pair of two-man groups: red and blue. You can issue orders to the entire element or to each pair separately. Switching between the groups is done by tapping a key. The commands you give are done in a context-sensitive manner and are based on what your crosshair is pointing at. Point at a door and hold down the right mouse button, and you're able to access a menu that gives you different options, such as "Open and Clear," which orders your men to open the door and enter, or "Open, Bang, and Clear," which will order your men to open the door, toss in a flashbang grenade, and then run into the room to clear it of threats. Point your crosshair at a civilian and you can order your men to zip cuff him or her for safety. Aim at a locked door and you can order your men to pick the lock or blow it open with a charge or breaching shotgun.

The context-sensitive interface extends to a multipurpose use button as well. Point it at a suspect or hostage, and the use button will cause you to yell at the person to put his hands up and surrender. You'll be doing this a lot in SWAT 4, as you attempt to get suspects to respect your authority before shooting them. Point your cursor at a dropped weapon and you can pick it up to secure it. Aim at a cuffed criminal or civilian and your use key will radio a status report into command.

There are also interface options that allow you to remotely command one of your squad elements. For example, you can order red team to stack up at a door, and then leave them there while you take blue team around the corner to a second door (which leads into the same room). Even though you're out of visual range of red team, you can bring up a picture-in-picture window of what red team is seeing, and through that window you can order them to enter the door they're standing in front of. This is a neat option that allows you to simultaneously enter a room that has two doors. During a given mission there are also picture-in-picture windows you can open that give you a view of what external snipers are seeing, and you can even control your snipers via those windows.

It seems like a lot to take in, and certainly it takes a few mission runs before you become used to all the options available to you. But once you've gotten a few missions under your belt, ordering your squad elements and moving along with them becomes second nature. The structure of the campaign seems to mimic this standard learning curve, as the first few missions are rather simple and easy, but the difficulty ramps up considerably in the later missions, where you'll find complicated building architecture and numerous heavily armed suspects.

Aliens Versus Predator 2

 Alien Vs Predator 2 iSO

Aliens Versus Predator 2
Each of the three campaigns takes about four to five hours to complete, but what each lacks in length more than makes up for in density. A lot of content has been packed into these levels; every one is rich with scripted sequences and little unexpected play elements. As in Monolith's No One Lives Forever, virtually every set of human characters that you encounter can be found engaged in some sort of idle chatter, often about some chaos that you caused while playing as one of the other species. This chatter is especially evident in the Alien and Predator campaigns, which both involve a lot more fights against human opponents and a lot more sneaking around.

Unlike in the original, large portions of Aliens vs. Predator 2 take place outside. The graphics are powered by the latest iteration of Monolith's Lithtech engine, and, while it has a reputation for being technologically somewhat behind the curve, it certainly gets the job done here. If objects occasionally appear a little blocky, the overall art direction--both in terms of its faithfulness to the films and the otherworldly look of the outdoors environments--is beyond reproach. As you stand on a high cliff and watch two perfectly rendered colonial dropships fly by you, bank left, and continue off into the distance, you'll quickly forgive a few too many squared-off desk chairs.

The first game relied almost exclusively on moody lighting to support its somewhat simple-looking environments. The sequel, while not needing it so much as a crutch, continues the trend of fear-inducing lighting schemes. Red security lamps, strobe lights, and pitch-blackness are all put to excellent use. The shoulder-mounted lamps worn by most human soldiers are the game's best lighting effect. The lamps cast a cone of white light that points in whichever direction a soldier is looking. The effect is especially good when several guards are creeping around a murky environment, their lamp cones intersecting as they cross paths.

The soundtrack is also excellent. It's a moody mix of ambient clanks and hisses, low bass hums, and screeching strings. The score dynamically changes to a more dramatic composition when you enter a battle. Strangely, it often switches before you're even aware that enemies have detected you, occasionally making the soundtrack a more effective danger signal than the marine's motion detector.

Shadowgrounds Survivor

Shadowgrounds Survivor

Shadowgrounds Survivor
In Shadowgrounds, you played a mechanic named Wesley Tyler, an unlikely hero thrust into an epic tale of survival against impossible odds. A long-standing colony on the Jupiter moon of Ganymede is overrun by unending hordes of infernally chitinous aliens, and Wesley fights them and saves the day. In Survivor, you play as three different, isolated survivors as they battle through the same invasion. It's the same events and the same basic story, just different peoples experiencing it.

This time through, you begin as Luke Giffords, one of the last remaining marines on Ganymede. Your weapon options are a pistol, an assault rifle and a rocket launcher — not all at once, mind you, but these are what you'll have to work with as you find them. After a few levels, you switch to a maintenance worker by the name of Bruno Lastmann. This grizzled old Russian has adopted an interesting way of staying awake — he drinks flamethrower fuel. This avatar employs a flamethrower (as you may have already guessed), a shotgun and a mini-gun cannon. Finally, you take control of Isabel Larosse, a special-ops sniper who remains dangerously close to a full psychotic break the entire time you're controlling her. Isabel uses a pistol, a rail-gun sniper rifle and a plasma cannon. All three of these unlikely heroes share the same goals: get to the New Atlantic Colony before the alien hordes do, get the city's defenses up, and pray that it's enough to keep the monstrous things at bay long enough for help to arrive.

Basic gameplay is still kill or be killed, run and gun, etc. Every kill nets you some experience, which is banked toward increased levels, and each level brings with it some upgrade points. Weapon upgrade parts are still found on the battlefield, dropped by enemies, but now you also get class-specific abilities and character tweaks. These are what increase with each level. Using the marine as an example, you'll be able to buy quick weapon reloads, tough skin and fragmentation grenades. This is in addition to the basic set of character improvements that all three avatars have: radar display, increased health, critical hits, and an "auto-doctor" that will dose you with a health kit (if you have one stockpiled) if you fall below 50% health at any time.

Oh,well, this is the fate of some games.Almost nobody knows about them , there are no advertisments,no nothing...But a lot of theese games are better than the over-marketed ones. One example is City Life, much better than Sim City Societies. But I'm sure more people played Societies, because that one's well known & the other not.Pity...
Frozenbyte (a Finnish company)produced back in 2005 their first game: Shadowgrounds.Cool game:it involved killing aliens, exactly like in Doom series, but in that time it was old-school (reminds me of Crusader-No Regret...ah,the good ol' days!).
Now,in 2007,it took me by surprise that they released a standalone expansion, called Shadowgrounds Survivor.
Ganymede, year 2096.The satellite is attaked by aliens. They must be destroyed. So you alternativelly take command of three soldiers:a marine (equipped with a pistol,a pulse rifle & a rocket launcer),a guy with a shotgun, flamethrower & minigun & a sniper, having a pistol,a railgun & a plasma rifle. Now,each character gains experience from killing aliens & does level-ups.From that you gain Special Upgrades points:more health, better grenades,a GPS system, etc. Some dead aliens drop ammo, others drop upgrade parts. You can purchase & install three unique upgrades for each weapon (accuracy, better ammo, bigger magazine slots & some special abilities...Level cap is 10.At the end the three characters will meet in New Atlantis to defeat the final aliens...that's where you get to choose your character & even drive a mech robot & control some turrets. Cool. It's not much, the game is short (5-6 hours),but it's very cool to blast the monsters to pieces.
The camera is a 3rd person top-down view, but it's really friendly & easy to control. The graphic textures are not amazing, but well designed ,there are AGEIA PhisX,so a lot of things are destroyable. What I've seen in this game & no other does better is the shadows. With a flashlight,in a dark corrdor, you can get scared by a little spider with a HUGE shadow projected on the wall. It's great, atmospheric & creepy too.The sound is good, the effects are well realised, the music is sometimes bizzaare & creepy,& at least the marine's voice acting sounds convincing.
I have to tell you about this:you also get coop play with a friend or survival (whoever survives more than the other wins).
In conclusion, this is much better than any Doom, play it,& you will most certainly like it!

The award-winning atmosphere and gameplay mechanics of the original Shadowgrounds make a triumphant return in this spin off/sequel armed with a slick new feature set!

Asterix & Obelix XXL

Asterix & Obelix XXL

Asterix & Obelix XXL
A detailed 3D action game with cute graphics, good music and fast phase gameplay. You control both Asterix & Obelix in a well known for the readers locations-Normandy,Switzerland,Greece,Egypt and more- and your mission is to save your friends who have been kidnapped by Cesar. You have to use both heroes' special moves and abilities to get through the stages.
The game inculdes huge batlles with romans but also some nice long requests where you enjoy the nice 3D environment.

The things I didn't like in this game.
The final boss in every stage is a letdown,he could be better than a machine. You might have problem with the jump button if you use keybord, rarely though, but still its annoying some times,I suggest you to use mousepad.

Overall a cute and fun asterix game that the fans(Asterix readers) will like and maybe stick to it for some time.

25 to Life

In 25 to Life you get a taste of an intriguing story line from three different perspectives. A criminal, a cop, and a gang member who just wants to get the hell out from under a life of crime. You can play from a first- or third-person perspective depending on your preference, and both play equally well. The game is littered with profanity and violence, but what would you expect from a gang type of game? This game is solely directed towards a mature audience and that is the only gamers I can honestly recommend this to. The game is very graphic with blood enabled, but that’s what makes this game even more realistic. There are some great cutscenes when your character dies played in slow motion that end up with your man laying in a pool of blood spilling over the concrete. Graphic yes, something you would find in any R rated gang movie? Most definitely. Some may say it might be pushing the envelope a bit, but it really did enhance the game.

Visually the game looked pretty darn good. I would not say that it was all that and a bag of chips or anything, but it’s the little things that immerse you into the game. There are plenty of noticeable items in all of the maps that are subtle, but enough to add a realism to the environment. I liked that bullet holes actually stayed in walls that you shot and that you could shoot glass, bottles, vases, etc. Blood splattered stains never hurt after you blow a guy's head off with a sawed-off shot gun either. Audibly the game is fantastic. The sound effects are top notch and the voice-overs are amazing too. Like most games repeated dialogue can get a bit old, but in this title it was tolerable. The high marks go to an awesome soundtrack. If you like Rap or Hip Hop you will be delighted to know that the music in the game is from some actual musical artists like Public Enemy, 2Pac, Xzibit, Tech N9ne, and DMX. There are roughly two dozen songs that can be heard any time you are near a boom box and you can change the song track as well. I rarely customize characters for online play but with the countless choices after you unlock items for completing special objectives in your missions turned out to be a blast. Couple that with some great tunes playing while you create your "gangster" and it puts you in the mood to decide what kind of tattoo to choose and where to put it.

There are plenty of weapons that you can acquire after blowing away anyone trying to stop you. Machine guns, pistols, sniper rifles, tear gas, Molotov Cocktails, etc. to give you an idea if what you can wield. You can even grab a hostage and use them as human shield. There are main and secondary objectives to complete and you get bonuses for completing them. The bonus is unlocking different customizations for your character. The environments hold pretty true to the storyline and are nicely done. You will find yourself in shady parts of town, Mexico, escaping from a prison, and a mansion to name a few.

Multiplayer Online and LAN is supported, but at the time of review I was only able to play for a short time. There are still reported issues according to some forums I found and hopefully a patch will be available soon. You can either play as a criminal or as a cop, and there are four types of games. There are many different options to choose from if you are hosting a game so you can pretty much customize just about everything. You can even join clans right on the Web site rather than finding a bunch of guys online and piecing one together like you have to do with most other titles. My online experience was short, but fun and I cannot wait until the bugs are worked out.

I have to say I was surprised how much I enjoyed this game. Normally, violent criminal games that play a lot of rap music are not something I would select. I’m usually one of the good guys and/or fighting on the US side of a military FPS, or the like. I also have to confess that I am not a huge fan of rap or hip-hop, but the music truly enhanced the game and game play. All these elements combined added to a realistic gaming experience. I requested this title to review as a change of pace and I am happy that I did.

Still Life

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, seeing how the game is published by the appropriately named Adventure Company, but Still Life is an adventure game tailored to the specific needs of established adventure game fans. Think back to good old Gabriel Knight (if the name means anything to you) and you're pretty close to the style and tone that Still Life aims for. Its slavish dedication to convention will scratch the methodical, cerebral itch all diehard adventure game fans have. As a genre exercise, though, it exerts little energy to draw in new players.

Still Life revolves around the brutal, serial murders of prostitutes in two different cities during different eras. You start the game in modern-day Chicago as FBI field agent Victoria McPherson, who is young and darkly energetic, with a certain disaffected cool and penchant for crackin' wise that is almost a mandatory trait for adventure game protagonists. Victoria's inability to stop the killer starts getting the better of her, and she finds herself collecting her thoughts while sifting through her dead grandfather's belongings in her childhood home. This brings us to Gustav McPherson, Victoria's grandfather, who is a private detective in Prague in the late 1920s. Gus is more personally haunted by his case than Victoria, and the story arc in Prague carries more weight and feels creepier because of his emotional involvement.

Next Life

Tedious pace and annoying pixel hunts sabotage this surreal adventure.

Combining stunning 2.5D graphics with intuitive third-person point-and-click gameplay, Next Life is sure to have players on the edge of their seats for hours! Engage yourself with varying degrees of puzzling conundrums as you attempt to untangle a web of dark secrets that have stood the test of time. Play as Adam, a 23 year old technician who ends up in a fatal car accident late one stormy evening – but was it in actual fact fatal? As Adam, you’ll soon awake in a dark and mysterious world that seems so real it’s scary…

Playing a lot of point-and-click adventures could prepare you for the afterlife if the premise of Next Life is accurate. However, let's hope that it isn't because this traditional adventure from Future Games wimps out when it comes to dealing with the "What happens after we die?" premise and also manages to almost bore you to death in the process. While you start off fascinated with the weird island on which you are marooned after the fiery death sequence that opens the proceedings, you soon find yourself trudging through a very slow, very unoriginal adventure-game scavenger hunt.

Clue Chronicles: Fatal Illusion

Clue Chronicles: Fatal Illusion
Don't expect any of the board game's promising elements to get much play in Clue Chronicles: Fatal Illusion.

It's New Year's Eve 1938. On board the private yacht of the wealthy and eccentric Ian Masque, you find yourself part of a "select" group of guests invited to an "unusual" New Year's Eve party. Each guest has a story to tell, but their connection to you and to each other remains hidden. Something strange is bound to happen, and everyone is a suspect.

Get ready to put your best deductive reasoning to work and unravel the true story behind this game. Along the way you'll find challenging puzzles to solve and mini-mysteries to unlock. This totally engaging mystery adventure is sure to keep super sleuths entertained from the opening scene to the exciting cliffhanging climax.

All of the game mechanics are competent and pitched to a novice adventurer, as are the straightforward puzzle solutions. From a first-person view, you move from point to point through prerendered period sets, questioning each guest via a pop-up memo pad of subjects. The scenery design is sparse, and the cutscenes lack any cinematic flair. An inventory of gathered objects also glides up from below. A visual catalog of suspects offers a bit of background and reminds you of each guest's possible motive in offing Ian Masque. The hint system is especially good, in that it lets you access up to three hints of decreasing obscurity at a given juncture in the game. At the very least, Fatal Illusion serves as a fair introduction to the adventure/puzzle style of play.

Game Features:
• New mystery in 4 acts
• 3 all-new settings
• New characters join the classic set
• Red herrings, minor mysteries & puzzles
• 20 solid hours of gameplay
• Cliffhanger ending

Nibiru: Age of Secrets

NiBiRu Age of Secrets
Secrets Lie Waiting For You To Discover!!!

From and Astonishing secret hidden by the Nazis at the end of WWII...

....to the heart of Prague and beyond...Unlock the secrets of the Ancient Mayans

A mysterious World War II tunnel is unearthed while building a new highway in Bohemia. Martin Holan, a linguistics and archeology student has been contacted to examine the fascinating discovery. Upon his arrival to the site, Martin soon uncovers a mysterious murder and a potential connection to the enigmatic tunnel. What begins as a short expedition to Prague turns into a dangerous and thrilling mystery, where the deep dark secrets of the Nazis, and the demise of the Mayan civilization, have our hero reeling into the heart of an exhilarating adventure.

You play Martin Holan, an Eastern European student/archivist desperate to escape an office buried under "loads of old papers" as the game begins. He gets his wish--and maybe a bit more than he bargained for--when his professor uncle calls with the news that he wants him to investigate a recently discovered Nazi mine for evidence of the existence of Nibiru. According to the prof, Adolf and pals were desperately trying to find the 12th planet (and the presumably advanced technology of its alien citizens) at the close of the war as a way to save the Third Reich from destruction. Research seems to indicate that the Nazis were close to making a huge discovery when the war ended in 1945, and that the gathered evidence may have been secreted away in this mine.

Features:
Solve stimulating and engaging puzzles throughout.
80 breathtaking locations created in rich photo-realistic detail
Interact with over 35 interesting characters as you discover numerous objects and clues.

Is the victim really who he claimed to be? What motive would any of the passengers have that would bring them to commit this heinous crime? It’s up to YOU to find out!

* Incredible twists-and-turns and an all-new surprise ending enhance the original story.
* Everyone is a suspect. Question all passengers and see if you can deduce the murderer.
* Over 20 hours of thrilling investigation to keep you engrossed in the case.

The newest Agatha Christie adventure game suffers from monotonous tasks and contrived plot twists that drag it down to mediocrity.

Contract J.A.C.K.

.A.C.K.

Contract J.A.C.K.

Contract J.A.C.K.
Pity poor Cate Archer. Everyone's favorite superspy in paisley has been replaced with a man in the latest addition to the No One Lives Forever franchise, a prequel called Contract J.A.C.K. The move is a timely one, seeing as the comely female version of James Bond by way of Austin Powers hasn't been wowing consumers accustomed to the stereotypical testosterone-heavy shooter. It's just a shame that developer Monolith couldn't have come up with something fresher and more involving, as the new release is merely a mediocre shoot-'em-up that can be finished in four hours.

Even in that limited time frame, Contract J.A.C.K. never takes off. You portray "ruthless assassin" John Jack (the J.A.C.K. of the title is also an acronym for Just Another Contract Killer), a thug working the other side of the street from Archer and her goody-two-shoes comrades in UNITY. Just weeks before the beginning of the events recounted in No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way, he gets forced into an assignment by arch-villain Dmitrij Volkov of HARM. But the potentially interesting angle of facing off against your old friends has been dumped for a hackneyed plot where Jack fights a group of Italian ne'er-do-wells called Danger Danger for the rights to a mad scientist currently dwelling on the moon.

Not being able to take on the likes of Ms. Archer and her mentor Bruno is a letdown from the very start. Even more disappointing, the sense of fun that permeated the series has been replaced by a guns-first philosophy. In some ways this is good, as the game gets right to the point in a way that its predecessors did not, but most often it proves simply numbing. All seven multipart missions deal strictly with shooting your way through waves of enemies from start to finish. You slaughter hired goons to escape a trap laid by a rival. You slaughter HARM agents that Volkov has sent to test your mettle. You slaughter Czechoslovakian soldiers guarding a rocket base. You slaughter Danger Danger storm troopers in secret headquarters, Italian villas, and even on the moon.

These are some interesting locales, particularly the moon base and a climactic fight in space reminiscent of the final scene in the Bond movie Moonraker. The lead-up to the final battle in the Italian countryside allows you to drive a scooter equipped with machine-gun cannons and is very scenic, set amidst rolling hills and a canal. Most settings, however, are pretty bland. The succession of Czech military installations consists of faceless warehouses awash in crates, and the huge village at the end of the game is like a maze of dead ends and doors that don't open. But no matter where you are, you never have time to soak up any atmosphere, since you're too busy bathing in blood.

And you get pretty bloody in Contract J.A.C.K. Aside from regular pauses to search for ways to open blocked doors (and pad out the running time of this brief shooter), there is nothing here but splattering bad guys all over the landscape. There is no stealth, no lock-picking, no playing around with the lethal hairpin, banana, and other nifty devices that UNITY's Santa's Workshop weapons lab provided Cate in the first two games. There are no conversations worthy of eavesdropping, no note trails to be pieced together to tell amusing side stories. Even the swinging '60s atmosphere has been all but eradicated. If not for old cars scattered through the levels and the great title song reminiscent of the classic Peter Gunn theme, the game could be taking place in the present day.

Donkey Xote RELOADED

Donkey Xote RELOADED

Donkey Xote RELOADED
RELOADED returns with a new game release: a simple adventure Donkey Xote from Take2 and Spanish developer Revistronic. This is a pretty unknown title which is hard to find on the internet - there’s a same titled movie, but I doubt there’s any connection. The game will surely feature a famous knight Don Quijote but other details are unknown at this moment.

While most young scholars may recall the tale of Don Quixote, Revistronic is delivering an alternative take on this classic story, incorporating the fresh perspective of Sancho’s donkey, Rucio. According to Revistronic, players will, “face the challenge of meeting Dulcinea” with an adventure that will “lead from Sancho’s house” and include “a jousting tournament in Barcelona.”

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy ISO

Download Free PC Games Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy Free Full Version PC Game

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
It manages to take all the fun parts from its predecessor and greatly expands them to create an engaging, new action game in its own right.

In this new addition to the Jedi Knight series, players can immerse themselves in the role of a young student of the Jedi arts. Begin by creating a custom character to train with, undergo missions, and participate in multiplayer battles.

Construct your own lightsaber, and choose your own fighting style, such as single saber, double saber, and the powerful dual-bladed saber style used by Darth Maul. Choose your own path as you learn to wield the power of the Force, pursuing the light or the dark side. On your quest to become the most powerful Jedi Knight, you will experience new vehicles, weapons, and expansive new Star Wars environments.

You play as Jaden, the new protagonist in Jedi Academy. You previously played as Kyle Katarn, a strong yet reluctant Jedi, in the previous Jedi Knight games. Kyle has since joined Luke Skywalker as a teacher at the Jedi Academy and is looking for new students. You can actually customize Jaden's character. You can be male or female, choose from one of several different races, and wear different outfits. In any event, you also happen to be the most promising student in the new class. Apparently, you've even built your own lightsaber, which is highly abnormal as lightsabers are usually built during training.

If Jaden is considered an unusual student, then your training is anything but common. Jaden's transport ship is attacked when it arrives at the Academy. Then it crashes into the ground. You and another student, Rosh, are the only survivors. He becomes your friend, yet he seems to become jealous of your abilities and his own slow progression. You don't have time to worry about Rosh, though. The storyline revolves around solving several questions related to your attack at the start of the game. Why did a female twi'lek steal information from Luke's chambers when the students were away rescuing the downed ship? What role does the Imperial remnant fill in this attack, and is it related to the mysterious Cult of Ragnos that is appearing in the galaxy? After a short training mission, you immediately set out to help Luke and Kyle obtain answers to these questions. The game's story doesn't get in the way of the action but serves to tie the numerous missions together.
